Inspired by the legacy, grace and grit of her grandmother Peggy Jean, Jessica Bandstra established Dogwood Proper to help others celebrate a home well-lived. Her fun and familiar personality combined with her eye for the extraordinary has been the backbone of Dogwood Proper's success. 

Born in Texas and residing in Tennessee since 2004, Jessica's family moved many times during her childhood. Looking back, "Moving was what shaped my love for interior design," says Jessica. "No matter what house we had, mom always made it feel like home." Moving was also where she learned the importance of investing in good furniture because "you can always take that with you."

After a 22-year career with Southwest Airlines, and multiple interior design projects for friends and family, Jessica renovated her career and opened Dogwood Proper in 2020. From taking a ranch home down to its studs to styled kid rooms and livable exterior spaces that invite people to gather, Dogwood Proper has quickly gained a following in Nashville.

What type of music do I play? In addition to my original acoustic rock songs (found on my 2014 and 2016 releases 'Coaster' and 'Grey Morning Light') I mix in the hits you know and love along with the deep cuts from artists ranging from Johnny Cash to Queen and Tom Petty to AC/DC.

With my trusty Martin D16 acoustic guitar, the tapping of my amplified left foot and my own voice, I put my own spin on the 'singer / songwriter / Americana' genres with songs that are about the reality of life, everyday struggles, and occasionally, cars and women..

My live equipment setup is compact enough to fit into literally any space (I was once directed to set up in a closet, and yes I did fit!) and I take great care in my live sound quality and volume so that you can enjoy the music while still holding a conversation with your friends!
